If you are planning to explore the New Forest by car over the coming weeks, a couple of upcoming road closures are worth keeping in mind when planning your routes around Ringwood and the eastern waterside area near Hythe.
For those travelling near Ringwood on the western side of the Forest, Long Lane is scheduled to close for a single day on Thursday 17 September 2026. As the Bournemouth Echo reports, the temporary closure is required while contractor Circet carries out pole renewal works. A diversion will direct traffic via Moortown Lane and Ringwood Road, so journeys into the market town and surrounding lanes should remain straightforward with only a short detour.
Over on the eastern edge of the Forest, a longer-term project is about to begin. According to a report in the Daily Echo, major gas works will force the closure of Hythe Road for around ten weeks. Drivers heading towards Hythe or travelling through the area are being warned to expect disruption and build a little extra time into their travel plans.
